Makayla's Rock Climbing

Rock Climbing

I wobble while I grip onto the bumpy surface of the cliff. I breath deeply in and out to try to improve my focus. As I stare at the top of the mountain, I make sure I have a safe piece of rock to hold onto as I move upwards. One hand after the other, I clasp onto the next sturdy rock I see, hoping that I reach the top. Moving forwards to the end of the journey, I finally reach my final destination with sweat dripping down my face, I look back and sigh in relief. I knew I would get there in the end because I persevered and used strength throughout the climb.

“Success seems to be largely a matter of hanging on after others let go” as quoted by William Feather. William Feather is trying to tell me not to give up even in tough situations. He is telling me to believe in my dreams and conquer my fears. I need to have faith in myself and keep going because William feather knows I can. In my opinion I think that it is a great message because it goes with the saying practice makes perfect and it is absolutely true.

The aim of rock climbing is to climb from bottom to top. In Order to participate in rock climbing you need highly specialised equipment as it takes up half of the sport. In modern times, most rock climbing was classed as free climbing and the equipment was used more for safety and not support. Now in our days rock climbing is a sport and people do it for the challenge, also the equipment is used to stop people from falling or dying. You need to have a good grip and great strength to be able to rock climb without any equipment which helps for support. It takes a lot of thinking in rock climbing as well.

Your brain controls the way you move and helps to function your muscles to make sure your arms and legs are in the right position for the climb. If you didn’t need safety gear you would just  need  a great body strength and a pair of good climbing shoes. Rock climbing needs to have a lot of physical and mental focus as rock climbing can be a dangerous sport too.

  1. Hi Makayla,
I enjoyed reading your piece of writing on rock climbing. You've used great adjectives and built good sentences throughout. You have made a good point on mental focus which can also be applied to your education. Keep up the awesome work.
